About The Position

UL Solutions is installing a solar monitoring system (SMS) near Monticello, Sullivan County, NY. The station, approximately 25x25 feet, includes solar panels, tripods, and scientific measurement equipment within a fenced area. This station will monitor solar resources and meteorological parameters. The role is temporary, lasting a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years, with the technician hired as a UL-employee (W-2) through a payroll partner, Cypress HCM. The position requires weekly maintenance visits, performed on the same day each week during daylight hours, to ensure consistent and accurate data collection.

Requirements

  • Must be able to take instruction remotely throughout the contract term.
  • Must use own transportation to and from the remote SMS location (4WD/AWD preferred).
  • Willing and able to walk to and from the site, typically no more than ¼ mile in one direction.
  • Required to climb and work comfortably from a 6 or 8-foot ladder (provided).
  • Required maintenance of equipment utilizing levels, screwdriver, and other hand tools (provided).
  • Must have demonstrated computer literacy, including the ability to upload attachments with their own version of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) to a SharePoint website with reliable internet.
  • A smartphone is required to take site photos and communicate with UL Solutions' staff.
  • A desktop computer, laptop, or tablet with internet capability is required for uploading maintenance photos and updating the Excel maintenance logbook.
  • Required to treat all applicable information as confidential.
  • Must pass a successful background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for equipment in the field, maintaining the highest level of communication.
  • Ensure all equipment is level and clean on a weekly basis.
  • Provide troubleshooting support (with assistance from UL Solutions) and perform repairs for low-medium complexity issues.
  • Ensure no debris obstructs the system, which may include grass cutting, snow removal, or clearing brush depending on the site and region.
  • Confirm the system is secure and has not been tampered with.
  • Upload a weekly Excel logbook, photos, and other documentation via the internet to support each visit.
  • Occasionally assist in replacing or troubleshooting equipment under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
