About The Position

Novelis – Guthrie Recycle Center, located in Guthrie, KY is seeking an experienced multi-craft Maintenance Technician to join our team. This position will require a safety conscious, collaborative team player with initiative to support and drive equipment reliability and uptime, through sound multi-craft maintenance practices, predictive maintenance, advanced troubleshooting techniques, and personal accountability. This position reports directly to the Guthrie Recycle Center, Associate Maintenance Leader and will be required to interact with fellow Maintenance team personnel, as well as serving all other departments across the Guthrie Recycle Center, to ensure an adequate operation. A successful candidate will be self-directed when necessary and provide appropriate feedback and improvement ideas on projects, planned tasks, and equipment related issues; as well as possessing the ability to effectively communicate with team members at all levels. The schedule for this position is a rotating, day/night shift, with overtime as required to support urgent maintenance demands and shift coverage. Intermittent schedule changes will occur at least, biannually, in order to support planned maintenance outages.

Requirements

  • Completed High School Diploma or GED, in conjunction with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, operating in an industrial maintenance setting.
  • Capable of communicating professionally, on a technical level.
  • Fluent in reading and interpreting equipment drawings, schematics, manuals and PLC ladder logic to aid in troubleshooting and/or problem solving.
  • Knowledgeable on maintaining mechanical components, such as but not limited to bearings, gears, driven shaft assemblies, belt and chain drive systems, conveyors, various types of pumps and gearboxes, with associated lubrication standards.
  • Knowledgeable on maintaining electrical components and control systems, such as but not limited to 3 phase/480V electrical systems, motor controls, AC drives and motors. Various types of control sensors, calibration/instrumentation, PLC systems, SCADA systems, and HMI’s.
  • Knowledgeable on maintaining pneumatic systems and components, such as but not limited to air compressors and dryers, FRL units, directional control valves, and various cylinders.
  • Knowledgeable on maintaining hydraulic systems and components, such as but not limited to HPU’s containing various pumps, directional/proportional valves, PRV’s, actuators and various cylinders.
  • Ability to effectively perform maintenance duties under the following criteria… Temperature extremes (>90°F and < 30°F).
  • Working from heights or aerial lifts, elevated platforms, ladders, etc..
  • Utilization of required PPE, arch flash clothing, full body harness, PAPR, etc..
  • Working in confined spaces.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs..
  • Climbing stairs, bending, twisting, kneeling, sometimes in close quarters.
  • Ability to differentiate color-coded wires, labels and signage.
  • Working non-standard days/hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Completed associates degree or vocational diploma from an accredited institution.
  • 8+ years’ experience, operating in an industrial maintenance setting.
  • Experience in a molten metal or aluminum processing environment, with direct-fired burner furnaces and/or vertical continuous casting systems.
  • Knowledgeable with CMMS’s, specifically SAP; in creating Notifications and Work Orders, searching spare material inventory, utilizing BOM’s, performing time confirmations and completing work orders.
  • Extensive understanding of complex electrical systems and capability of efficiently troubleshooting common issues.
  • Previous knowledge of Reliability Centered Maintenance practices and ability to support analysis and develop mitigation plans.
  • Experience and/or certifications with predictive maintenance technologies (i.e. Vibration, Tribology, Thermography, Ultrasound, Motor Circuit Analysis).
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of failure modes for different types of equipment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.

Responsibilities

  • Possess a high level of safety consciousness for self, as well as all other individuals and promote a positive safety culture through following the site safety requirements.
  • Maintain a strong sense of self-accountability, as well as being able to respectfully, hold others accountable.
  • Execute scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance work orders on weekly schedules, while maintaining records of breakdowns, time confirmations, and material movements within the site CMMS.
  • Identify potential failures and proactively repair/report before they cause unplanned downtime or upset conditions, to maintain equipment reliability.
  • Efficiently respond and troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and make effective repairs to get the equipment back to a reliable operatable state, in a time-orderly fashion; to improve Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and extend Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
  • Accurately estimate and communicate equipment breakdown repair times to allow affected departments to accurately plan for upset conditions.
  • Collaborate across all departments and with stakeholders to maintain transparency and improve asset reliability.
  • Support Reliability processes such as RCA’s, RCFA’s, Bad Actor Analysis, etc.; to ensure that accurate data is being captured and conveyed, as well as opportunities for improvement are being generated.
  • Promote a Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) mentality to maintain maximum asset availability and operational longevity.
  • Support 5S practices to ensure that the maintenance shop, tools, material, and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
