About The Position

Repairs and maintains production machines and equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications. Performs advanced troubleshooting, works with general supervision, and may provide work training to less experienced maintenance staff. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of production or processing equipment, requiring the ability to diagnose machine malfunctions by observing and listening to operating machines and mechanical devices. The technician will dismantle devices, replace defective parts, and test malfunctioning machinery. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting, upgrading, and repairing machine control circuitry, adjusting functional parts, and performing routine preventative maintenance. The role may involve initiating purchase orders for parts and machines and may be assigned to specific areas such as Can Making, Can Filling, or General Maintenance. Collaboration with team members to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements is also a key aspect of the position.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Possesses all basic and some advanced skills and knowledge.
  • Thorough understanding of the total process flow.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals.
  • Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines and/or tools.
  • Forklift, crane and hoist certification.
  • Basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, maintenance, and repair of production or processing equipment.
  • Observing and listening to operating machines, mechanical devices or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair.
  • Dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
  • Replacing defective parts with new parts or repairing them.
  • Testing malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment, and discussing malfunction with other maintenance workers, tool maker, maintenance lead/supervisor, to diagnose malfunction.
  • Troubleshooting, upgrading, and repairing machine control circuitry/controls.
  • Adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, electrical multi-meter, gages, etc.
  • Initiating purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Performing routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
  • May be assigned to a specific area of the business i.e., Can Making, Can Filling or General Maintenance.
  • Working individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
