About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Technician to support the daily operations of the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that campus facilities, equipment, and grounds remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. This role supports both routine maintenance and urgent facility needs, contributing to a safe and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and families.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance, facilities, or custodial experience
  • Experience performing basic facility repairs (plumbing, painting, equipment maintenance, or similar)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to maintenance needs
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a safe work environment
  • Ability to successfully complete required Nevada state background checks and clearances

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a K–12 school or large facility environment
  • Familiarity with facility maintenance systems or work-order platforms
  • Knowledge of basic building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, painting, minor electrical work, and facility upkeep.
  • Maintain classrooms, restrooms, cafeteria spaces, and common areas in safe working condition.
  • Identify maintenance needs and recommend repairs or equipment replacement as necessary.
  • Support preventative maintenance efforts to ensure long-term functionality of building systems.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all safety protocols and chemical handling regulations.
  • Respond promptly to facility issues and maintenance emergencies.
  • Ensure proper security and care of campus facilities, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Track and document completed work, materials used, and outstanding repair needs.
  • Assist with coordinating larger maintenance projects and external vendor services when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with school leadership and staff regarding facility needs and updates.
  • Provide recommendations for facility improvements and preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Support campus operations during events, projects, and special facility needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support school operations.
