About The Position

UL Solutions is installing a solar monitoring system (SMS) near Calneva, Washoe County, NV. The station, approximately 25x25 feet, includes solar panels, tripods, and scientific measurement equipment within a locked fence. This station monitors solar resources and meteorological parameters. The role requires weekly maintenance, performed on the same day each week during daylight hours, for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years. The technician will be the first point of contact for equipment in the field, ensuring equipment is level and clean, providing troubleshooting and basic repairs with support from UL Solutions, clearing debris obstructing the system, and confirming system security. Each maintenance visit is expected to take 60-90 minutes, with an additional 45-90 minutes for uploading an Excel logbook, photos, and documentation via the internet. The total weekly commitment, including travel, is estimated at 2-4 hours. Occasionally, assistance may be needed for equipment replacement or troubleshooting, with guidance from a Senior Engineer.

Requirements

  • Must be able to take instruction remotely throughout length of contract term
  • Must use own transportation to and from remote SMS location (4WD/AWD preferred.)
  • Willing/able to walk to and from site, typically no more than ¼ mile in one direction
  • Required to climb and work comfortably from a 6 or 8-foot ladder (provided)
  • Required maintenance of equipment utilizing levels, screwdriver, and other hand tools (provided)
  • Must have demonstrated computer literacy, including ability to upload attachments with their own version of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) to our SharePoint website with reliable internet
  • A smart phone is required to take site photos as well as to communicate with UL Solutions' staff while on site in an event of an emergency, etc.
  • A desktop computer, laptop or tablet with internet capability is required for uploading maintenance photos and updating excel maintenance logbook
  • Required to treat all applicable information as confidential
  • Must pass a background check and drug screen

Nice To Haves

  • No solar experience is required
  • Training will be provided remotely via phone and video, potential onsite training when possible

Responsibilities

  • Uphold highest level of communication as first point of contact for equipment in field
  • Ensure all equipment is level & clean on a weekly basis
  • Provide troubleshooting (w/support from UL Solutions) and when requested, repair(s) for low-medium complexity issues
  • Ensure there is no debris obstructing the system (depending on site/region, grass cutting, snow removal, or clearing brush)
  • Confirm the system is secure and hasn’t been tampered with
  • Upload weekly excel logbook via internet
  • Upload photos and other documentation to support the visit
