Maintenance Technician for Solar Monitoring System in Platte County, WY - Training Provided (2-4 hours a week)
About The Position
UL Solutions is installing a solar monitoring system (SMS) in Uva, Platte County, WY. This system, with a footprint of approximately 25x25 feet, includes solar panels, two 7-foot tripods, scientific measurement equipment, and a fenced barrier. The system is designed to monitor solar, meteorological, and weather-related parameters. The role requires weekly maintenance, to be performed on the same day each week during daylight hours, for a maximum of two years to ensure consistent and accurate data collection. The position is temporary, and the technician will be hired as a W-2 worker through a payroll partner, Cypress HCM.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to receive and implement technical instruction remotely throughout the entire contract term.
- Valid driver's license and reliable access to personal transportation to and from the remote SMS location.
- Physical capability to walk to and from the site, typically up to one-quarter mile in each direction.
- Demonstrated competency working safely from 6 or 8-foot ladders.
- Proficiency in equipment maintenance utilizing levels, screwdrivers, and standard hand tools.
- Advanced computer literacy with demonstrated proficiency in data entry, spreadsheet management (Microsoft Excel), file naming conventions, and document upload procedures via SharePoint platform.
- Possession of a smartphone capable of capturing high-quality site photography and enabling direct communication with UL Solutions personnel.
- Access to a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet with reliable internet connectivity.
- Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality of all project-related information and data.
Nice To Haves
- Prior solar industry experience is preferred.
- Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicles are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for equipment in the field, maintaining the highest level of communication.
- Ensure all equipment is level and clean on a weekly basis.
- Provide troubleshooting support (with assistance from UL Solutions) and perform repairs for low-to-medium complexity issues.
- Ensure no debris obstructs the system, which may involve grass cutting, snow removal, or clearing brush depending on the site and region.
- Confirm the system is secure and has not been tampered with.
- Upload a weekly Excel logbook, photos, and other documentation via the internet to support each visit.
- Occasionally assist in replacing or troubleshooting equipment under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
