What It's Like to Be a Maintenance Technician As a Maintenance Technician at Oakbrook, your day-to-day will include a variety of hands-on tasks that keep our communities running smoothly. From HVAC inspections and plumbing repairs to general upkeep and preventative maintenance, no two days are exactly the same.

Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and continuous improvement
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, construction, painting, and general maintenance
  • Ability to work with vendors, parts, and service providers
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with residents, team members, and vendors
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in residential property maintenance or a related field preferred
  • Vocational or trade school certification preferred
  • Must supply personal hand tools required for the role

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and replacements for HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, and pool control systems
  • Manage and complete work orders, unit turns, and coordinate contractors for estimates and approved work
  • Complete routine and preventative maintenance, including: Grounds care and common area upkeep, Trash and recycling management, Safety, monthly, and quarterly inspections
  • Assist in managing budgets related to unit turns, repairs & maintenance (R&M), and capital expenditures (CapEx)
  • Report accidents, emergencies, or safety concerns immediately
  • Support additional properties within the assigned area as needed
  • Participate in an on-call rotation schedule
