About The Position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing physical structures, pipe and electrical systems, and mechanical and hydraulic components of production machines and equipment. This role also involves maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and conveyor systems. The technician will set up and operate a variety of machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to fabricate or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines. The position requires adherence to all OSHA and Company safety standards, as well as assisting with facility Operation Clean Sweep compliance and the repurpose and recycling of resources. Communication with management regarding significant issues impacting operations, quality, safety, health, or the environment is essential, along with maintaining accurate records in MPulse and adhering to ISO requirements.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with clean MVR.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint) and a capability to learn basic systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and display analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage time, organize, and set priorities.
  • Detail oriented and well organized.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic equipment, plumbing, general construction, welding, fabrication, hydraulic and mechanical equipment, electrical (up to 480v) control panels and PLC.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in similar title and scope of responsibility.
  • Level III Technician – certification from an accredited institution for welding technology AWS certification/3G welding certification/6G welding certification, carpentry, electrical, and computer (PLC) engineering.
  • Familiarity with process mapping and basic quality processes.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
  • Inspects and measures parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
  • Removes and replaces worn or defective parts of drive mechanism or hydraulic system.
  • Locates damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machine, and measures, cuts, threads, and installs new pipe.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  • Assists departments with requests including moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies.
  • Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintains time (preventive maintenance) and production records (general work orders) utilizing MPulse software.
  • Operates snow removal equipment to maintain sidewalks and parking lots.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
  • Operates and understands cutting torch or welding equipment (MIG/TIG/Stick) to cut or join metal parts, demonstrating proficiency and quality of work.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures, demonstrating proficiency and quality of work.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as motors and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables, demonstrating proficiency and quality of work.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Installs new or repaired parts.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
  • Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Maintains and repairs building’s plumbing systems.
  • Creates project parts lists.
  • Reviews manufacturers’ service manuals, own establishment’s usage schedules, and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.
  • Studies production and operation schedules and confers with other staff and with maintenance supervisors to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with operation of establishment.
  • Estimates costs of personnel, parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance.
  • Maintains records of planned and completed maintenance.
  • Communicates with third party contractors on repairs or equipment.
  • Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Keeps management abreast of significant issues or developments that impact operations, quality, safety, health, or environmental.
  • Enters details completion records in MPulse and associated electronic storage.
  • Generates and identifies Corrective Action reports and Opportunities for Improvement reports.
  • Follows all ISO requirements; ensures ISO documentation is current and adhered to.
  • Receives written and verbal instructions from Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance & Safety Manager.
