About The Position

Diagnose mechanical malfunctions and make repairs or adjustments as needed. Perform testing, installation, replacement or modification of components. This role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing machinery and equipment, troubleshooting machine and production problems, and performing other maintenance duties as assigned. The technician will work with systems or equipment utilizing mechanical energy in the facilities, repair machine parts using various welding techniques, and disassemble/repair or replace defective parts. They will also be responsible for observing all safety precautions, including lock, tag, and try procedures, and may oversee the work of lower-level mechanics or contractors. The position requires the ability to work under pressure, adhere to plant standard operating procedures and safety policies, and communicate effectively with production operators and supervisors. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times. Understanding plant environmental and safety policies, participating in training programs, and performing assigned tasks as specified in environmental procedures are also key aspects of the role. The technician must understand the significant environmental impacts of their job activities and the consequences of departing from specified work instructions, and know the location of EHS documents. Initiative, good judgment, and safe work practices are essential. The role also requires the ability to climb ladders to heights over 10 feet and troubleshoot equipment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings
Basic knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic equipment (repairing hydraulic leaks, refilling hydraulic equipment with oil)
Basic knowledge of electricity to perform tasks such as changing motors
Basic knowledge of boiler operations
Multi-tasking skills are extremely important
Production and work tasks move at a very fast pace

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of trade functions such as testing, installation, replacement or modification of components
Work with systems or equipment which utilize mechanical energy in the facilities
Repair and maintain manufacturing machinery and equipment in the facility
Repair machine parts using various welding techniques
Disassemble and repair or replace defective parts, reassemble and check operation using tools such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, levels, plumb bobs, straight edge, machine shop equipment and other measuring instruments
Other maintenance duties as assigned and required
Observe all safety precautions especially lock, tag and try
Oversee the work of lower level mechanics or contractors
Ability to work under pressure
Responsible for observing all plant standard operating procedures and safety policies
Responsible for teamwork communication with production operators and supervisors
Must wear appropriate PPE at all times
Understand plant environmental and safety policies
Participate in training programs to enhance environmental and safety performance
Perform assigned tasks as specified in the environmental procedures and work instructions
