Maintenance Technician Intern

About The Position

The Maintenance Technician Intern will gain hands-on experience in multifamily property maintenance by assisting with property appearance, safety, make-ready processes, preventative maintenance, and repair projects while learning industry best practices. Reporting to the Property Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in related trades preferred
  • Previous maintenance, facilities, construction, or customer service experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance as required by property
  • EPA certification Type I and II, or Universal preferred; willingness to obtain certification if required
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Demonstrated interest in maintenance operations, leadership development, and property management
  • Ability to maintain composure while addressing challenges and assisting with problem resolution
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as needed
  • Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and work effectively within a team environment
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and willingness to learn property management and maintenance software systems

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing daily maintenance operations under the direction of the Property Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor
  • Support the timely completion of service requests and resident maintenance needs
  • Assist with scheduling, tracking, and monitoring work orders and make-ready progress
  • Participate in preventative maintenance programs for buildings, units, and equipment
  • Assist with unit inspections and make ready maintenance
  • Communicate regularly with maintenance staff and office personnel regarding property needs and work status
  • Identify and report safety concerns, hazardous conditions, and maintenance issues
  • Monitor pool operations and help maintain health department compliance standards
  • Support curb appeal through property inspections and grounds upkeep
  • Assist with inventory management, supply organization, and maintenance shop cleanliness
  • Maintain positive resident relationships through professional and timely service
  • Assist with snow removal and other property emergency response efforts
  • Support team development and operational improvement initiatives
