About The Position

The Maintenance Technician II performs skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair work across YMCA facilities and building systems. This role independently addresses a variety of maintenance needs while helping identify and resolve issues before they impact operations. Through technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to quality, the Maintenance Technician II helps maintain safe, reliable, and well-functioning facilities that support YMCA programs and services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of facilities maintenance, building operations, or related maintenance experience required.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance systems.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex maintenance issues.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and make sound decisions.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or participate in emergency/on-call coverage as needed.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or licensing in a specialty area such as HVAC, plumbing, or electrical preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure building systems, equipment, and facilities remain safe, functional, and operating efficiently.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs to minimize downtime and prevent recurring issues.
  • Identify potential maintenance concerns and recommend solutions before they impact operations.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance activities to extend equipment life and improve reliability.
  • Diagnose and repair issues involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other facility systems.
  • Perform repairs with a focus on quality, safety, and long-term solutions.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for maintenance-related issues and provide guidance to Level I technicians when needed.
  • Interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documentation to support repairs and installations.
  • Determine when issues require additional expertise, contractors, or specialized support.
  • Respond to work orders, service requests, and facility needs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Prioritize work based on safety, operational impact, and urgency.
  • Communicate repair status, challenges, and recommendations effectively with supervisors and internal partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve preventative maintenance programs, reduce repeat failures, and increase efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work, materials used, and equipment history.
  • Support facility projects, upgrades, inspections, and improvement initiatives.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
