About The Position

Maintenance Technician II performs technical work in the operation and maintenance of county-owned buildings, facilities, and athletic fields in park facilities. This role is responsible for park maintenance in designated areas, coordinating with general maintenance staff, and identifying tasks that may need to be completed. The position involves assisting with custodial duties, performing basic carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing work, and repairing playground equipment, fences, and various athletic courts. Additionally, the technician will construct and maintain sports fields, perform field maintenance on small equipment, and handle painting tasks. Ground maintenance, including raking, weeding, sodding, watering, and trash disposal, is also a key responsibility, along with trimming and removing trees. Minor construction and maintenance on athletic fields and courts, operation of lawn/turf maintenance equipment, and transporting equipment between sites are also part of the duties. Weekend overtime and rotation on-call may be required. The role may also involve obtaining construction permits and coordinating with outside contractors, as well as operating power tools for electrical service and installation, and maintaining light fixtures. Emergency response duties are also a requirement for county employees.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
• Five (5) years of experience in building, electrical, plumbing, construction, or an acceptable combination of training and experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida and be insurable by current insurance carrier, or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
• Must have or be able to obtain certification within three (3) months of employment in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS), IS-200.b: ICS for Single Resources & Initial Action Incidents, IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System.
• Knowledge of all phases of maintenance, construction, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Knowledge of safe, efficient and effective use of equipment, hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of the proper use of electrical test equipment.
• Knowledge of building codes for accessibility for the handicapped.
• Ability to read and interpret sketches and blueprints.
• Ability to make time and material estimates.
• Ability to identify safety and electrical deficiencies and problems.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with departments, associates and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for park maintenance in designated areas, coordinate with general maintenance staff, identify tasks that may need to be completed in designated area.
• Assist with custodial duties within parks, as necessary.
• Performs basic carpentry, masonry and electrical work.
• Performs plumbing tasks, on a semi-skilled level, on park facilities and irrigation systems.
• Repairs and maintains playground equipment.
• Builds and repair fences.
• Repairs tennis, handball, basketball and shuffleboard courts.
• Builds and repairs volleyball and bocce courts.
• Constructs and maintains softball, baseball and soccer fields.
• Performs field maintenance on small equipment.
• Performs painting tasks in parks and park buildings.
• Maintains ground (rakes, weeds, sods, waters, picks up trash and disposes of same).
• Trim and remove trees.
• Performs minor construction and maintenance on athletic fields and courts.
• Operates most equipment associated with lawn/turf maintenance.
• Transports equipment used in daily activities from site to site.
• Obtain construction permits as required, and coordinates work with outside contractors as necessary.
• Operates equipment and all other power tools associated with electrical service and installation.
• Installs and maintains light fixtures.
• Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other management personnel.
• Report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description.
