About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining HVACR systems and devices in working order throughout the school system, including the installation and repair of equipment and systems. The role involves advising supervisors of safety violations, completing work orders, responding to emergency duty assignments, and performing preventive maintenance on HVACR equipment. The technician will also be responsible for moving equipment, assisting with snow removal, reporting vehicle issues, and training other employees in the HVACR trade. Additionally, the role requires assuming responsibility for assigned tools and assisting in general maintenance during periods of high need or emergencies.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand the operation of a wide variety of computer and electrical controls.
  • Skilled in all aspects of HVACR repair.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to detect malfunctioning equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials and staff, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Willingness to attend skills workshops and/or seminars as needed.
  • Ability to read, write, and work from blueprints and schematics.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal mechanical codes.
  • Ability to make effective decisions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair natural gas house piping.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Serve as role model.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must possess a CFC license, universal preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.

Nice To Haves

  • HVACR technical degree, journeyman mechanical card or certificate from accredited HVACR institution, Master HVACR License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain HVACR systems and devices in working order throughout the school system.
  • Install, repair equipment/systems and devices.
  • Advise supervisors of safety violations.
  • Maintain, service, troubleshoot, and repair heating ventilation and air conditioning systems and related equipment.
  • Complete work orders, recording both time and material required.
  • Respond to emergency duty assignments on both a daily and on-call basis.
  • Repair other equipment as needed such as custodial, foodservice, and shop equipment.
  • Move equipment between school system facilities.
  • Assist in snow removal.
  • Report problems with assigned vehicles; maintain vehicle cleanliness as well as oil, gas, and coolant levels.
  • Perform work in a timely manner.
  • Train employees in the HVACR trade.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned tools.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVACR equipment, such as inspecting, cleaning, oiling, greasing, calibrating, and changing air filters and drive belts.
  • Assist throughout maintenance when there is a need of additional personnel due to absences or in emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
