About The Position

The Maintenance Technician I performs routine maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance activities on water and wastewater treatment plant equipment, facilities, and systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • 1-2 years of maintenance experience in industrial, municipal, or wastewater treatment setting preferred.
  • Entry-level candidates with relevant training will be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
  • Technical/vocational training in industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Wastewater treatment plant operator certification (or ability to obtain within specified timeframe) may be required.
  • OSHA safety certifications preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, blowers, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Repair and replace defective parts, components, and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems, including motors, control panels, and lighting.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs and installations.
  • Lubricate equipment and machinery according to maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with emergency repairs and respond to after-hours callouts as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work order documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and plant standard operating procedures.
  • Perform grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, and general housekeeping.
  • Assist senior maintenance staff with complex repairs and projects.
  • Operate plant equipment as needed during maintenance activities.
