About The Position

Maintenance of gas distribution and transmission stations; including all mowing, painting, and soda blasting. Incumbents in this position will be held to the District’s Gold Standard for Customer Service.

Requirements

  • High School plus zero to two years of experience.
  • Skills to follow instructions, written or verbal, to assist other employees with daily activities or assigned jobs.
  • Ability to recognize, to understand, to follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Requires ability to read records, reports, policies and procedure manuals.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to accurately read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
  • Ensures proper care in use and maintenance of equipment and supplies issued for job use.
  • Knowledge and task evaluation as determined by Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration rule CFR 49, Part 192; Subpart N : Operator Qualifications (OQ).
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade; skill in performing routine manual labor.
  • Capability to perform construction and demolition; to load and unload materials and/or equipment at job site.
  • Skill in use of materials and/or equipment in assigned area.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Basic data entry and/or word processing skills
  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork
  • Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.
  • May be required to work other than normal work schedules.
  • May be required to work overtime with little notice
  • Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical work/exertion is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • Work involves considerable exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Required to pass a respirator fit test and utilize respirator during blasting and painting operations.
  • Employees in this classification will be subject to undergo testing for illegal drugs in accordance with DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations, Code of Federal Regulation, Title 40 (49 CFR), Part 199.

Responsibilities

  • Uses and maintains lawn equipment (riding mower, walk behind mower, weed eater, pump spray bottle, and other hand tools).
  • Hangs company and no smoking signs in accordance with Okaloosa Gas District Policy.
  • Repairs and maintains fences, vaults, chains and locks in order to keep District property secure and safe.
  • Knows procedures for Media Blasting.
  • Uses and maintains Media Blaster.
  • Uses and maintains paint booth, spray gun and all other painting equipment used in maintenance of District facilities.
  • Cleans equipment, loads materials, hooks-up heavy equipment, etc.
  • Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned.
  • Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat at all times.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.
  • Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.
  • Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
