About The Position

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for repairing, replacing, and correcting equipment to ensure it operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements. This role involves troubleshooting equipment, consulting with engineers and vendors, and performing layout work for projects. The technician must adhere to all safety requirements and comply with Simmons' policies and government regulations concerning safety, environment, vehicle operation, and the handling of food products, packaging, and ingredients. The position also requires active participation as a team member, contributing to team concepts, programs, and policies, and fostering cohesiveness within the team. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems, including quality, security, office environment, company policies, and LEAN principles, is expected, along with an understanding of the impact of individual actions on these systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. The role may involve other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

Must have experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
Must be able to manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds.
Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for entire shift.
Must be able to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty area with a noise level above 90 decibels.
Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required.

Responsibilities

Repairs, replaces, corrects or affects equipment as needed to ensure equipment operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.
Consults with engineers and vendors as needed.
Accomplishes layout work for each project as needed.
Troubleshoots equipment.
Meets safety requirements in accomplishing responsibilities of this position complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Simmons or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle, handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and any related items.
Participates as a member of the Team, including ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members.
Attends appropriate team meetings.
Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Is familiar with Simmons' established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position's role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
