About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for maintaining and servicing the company's fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role involves diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring the safety and reliability of vehicles. The position requires a skilled individual with strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to quality workmanship, reporting to the Maintenance Manager and Leads.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • 1-2 years of related experience including vocational training in automotive or diesel mechanics, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Adherence to DOT regulations.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to document work and communicate with team members and government agencies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently to resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and the ability to work safely in a shop environment.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations for vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair complex issues.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational training in automotive or diesel mechanics.
  • Possession of relevant certifications, such as ASE or equivalent.
  • CDL Commercial driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) services and multi-point safety inspections on a diverse fleet, including tractors, trailers, straight trucks, light-duty gas & diesel vehicles, and forklifts.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on a variety of vehicles, including trucks, vans, and specialized equipment.
  • Perform oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and other preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Execute scheduled oil, filter, and fluid changes in accordance with maintenance schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Lubricate chassis components, fifth wheels, and other moving parts.
  • Check, adjust, and maintain tire pressures and tread depths.
  • Conduct safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards or compliance issues.
  • Ensure vehicles meet safety and emissions standards.
  • Assist with keeping maintenance records updated by completing PM sheets and accurately recording time on repair orders.
  • Inform Lead Tech, Supervisor, or Manager of any shortages in shop supplies or parts inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed, including parts used, labor hours, and equipment condition.
  • Complete service reports and maintenance logs.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergencies promptly and perform on-site repairs.
  • Keep tools and equipment in good working condition and report any issues or needs for replacement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all company policies and safety regulations.
  • Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices for fleet maintenance.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.
