About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. 3M INDIANAPOLIS is seeking a candidate for MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I. As Maintenance Technician I, you will play an important role in keeping manufacturing equipment operating safely and efficiently. You will troubleshoot equipment issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and work with production and maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime.

Requirements

  • Possess a Two (2) year Technical Degree/Diploma or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a Mechanical Discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience installing, diagnosing and repairing high speed assembly and/or automated packaging machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three (3) years of experience diagnosing and repairing electrical power supply, machine control device, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment(s) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old to be considered for employment with 3M.
  • Must sign an employee agreement as a condition of employment with 3M.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience performing maintenance in a high-speed manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting, machine controls, motors, sensors, and related industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to perform basic machining, fabrication, welding, pipe fitting, and millwright tasks.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated equipment and identifying the root cause of recurring equipment failures.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, engineering, maintenance, and other cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of industrial manufacturing equipment and systems, including: Mechanical equipment and components, Electrical equipment and machine controls, Hydraulic and pneumatic systems, Pumps and related equipment, Web handling systems, High-speed assembly and automated packaging equipment.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Diagnose equipment problems and determine the appropriate repair method, parts, tools, and materials needed to complete the work.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, schematics, and related information to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications, maintenance procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance procedures, and overall equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate equipment issues, repairs, and follow-up needs to appropriate team members.
  • Work collaboratively with production, engineering, maintenance, and other site personnel to resolve equipment issues and support manufacturing operations.
  • Help maintain appropriate parts, tools, and supplies needed to support maintenance activities.
  • Support responsible management of maintenance-related spending and parts inventory.
  • Comply with corporate policies, procedures and security standards while performing assigned duties.
  • Contribute to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.
