About The Position

Forsyth County's Parks and Recreation has an opening for Maintenance Technician I. This is a full-time opportunity to work outdoors at beautiful Tanglewood Park. This role involves working within the Parks & Recreation field in a pleasing outdoor County Park location, focusing on a variety of tractor-related tasks. The primary responsibility is the proper operation and maintenance of a John Deere 1600 batwing mower, including mowing large-acreage areas, bush hogging, gravel road scraping, and leaf/roadway blowing. The position also requires operating smaller tractors, performing preventive maintenance, light repairs, and general upkeep. Additional duties include general grounds maintenance such as shrub bed maintenance, line-trimming, push mowing, leaf removal, sidewalk installation, tree removals, snow removal, and light grading. The role also involves assisting with Special Events, including the Festival of Lights, and the safe operation and maintenance of 2-cycle and medium equipment (skid loader, lawnmowers, tractors) after training.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Some experience in basic building or grounds maintenance work.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • Ability to independently adhere to a time schedule.
  • Ability to maintain order and ensure compliance with rules.
  • Ability to operate and care for power equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to inspect and report needs for repairs.
  • Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered for minimum qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Proper operation and daily/weekly maintenance of a John Deere 1600 batwing mower.
  • Mowing of all designated large-acreage areas, including facility grounds, open fields, and pastures.
  • Bush hogging operations.
  • Gravel road scraping.
  • Leaf and roadway blowing.
  • Operating smaller tractors in the fleet.
  • Performing preventive maintenance, light repairs, and general upkeep on equipment.
  • Performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in general grounds maintenance.
  • Shrub bed maintenance.

  • Push mowing.
  • Leaf removal.
  • Sidewalk installation.

  • Assisting with assigned Special Events, including the Festival of Lights.
