About The Position

The City of Greensboro is seeking a Maintenance Technician-HVAC to join the Engineering and Inspections Department, Building Maintenance Division. This is an entry-level skilled trades opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work, troubleshooting equipment, learning new skills, and working with a team of experienced HVAC professionals. You'll work under the supervision of an HVAC Maintenance Mechanic and/or supervisor while gaining practical experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and renovating HVAC systems throughout City facilities. This position provides a strong foundation for individuals who want to develop a long-term career in HVAC, facilities maintenance, or the skilled trades. Expanding your HVAC expertise while developing knowledge of building automation, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and technology can create additional opportunities for career advancement. We're looking for someone who is dependable, safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and ready to develop a career in HVAC and building maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED with 1–3 years of HVAC experience (Installation, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and repair experience).
  • OR No High School Diploma/GED with 5–7 years of HVAC experience (Installation, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and repair experience).
  • OR an Associate's Degree with 1 year of HVAC experience (Installation, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and repair experience).
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building automation systems, such as: Trane Tracer Johnson Controls
  • Experience with other building trades, including: Carpentry Plumbing Electrical
  • Experience using: Computers iPads/tablets General office equipment

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation and maintenance of HVAC equipment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and diagnosing HVAC system issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs under supervision.
  • Assist with HVAC renovations and construction projects.
  • Use HVAC hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Work with HVAC mechanical equipment and related building systems.
  • Identify and report equipment problems and maintenance needs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and related technical information.
  • Complete work orders using a computer or electronic device.
  • Follow applicable local and state building codes and industry standards.
  • Follow OSHA policies, procedures, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Assist with building maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with other skilled trades and maintenance personnel.
