About The Position

Polar Field Services (PFS) is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician / Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support scientific research operations in some of the world's most remote locations. This position rotates between Toolik Field Station in Alaska, Fairbanks operations, and Summit Station in Greenland, maintaining vehicles, heavy equipment, generators, and station facilities that keep Arctic research moving.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or industrial machinery
  • Experience with power generation systems
  • Proficiency using diagnostic tools and software
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. passport
  • Ability to work safely in remote locations and extreme weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Facility maintenance experience
  • Remote field, mining, oilfield, military, Arctic, or Antarctic experience
  • Experience with fuel, water, or utility systems

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, snowmobiles, tracked vehicles, and generators
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on diesel and gasoline-powered equipment
  • Support station power generation and fuel operations
  • Maintain facility systems, including plumbing, heating, structural, and minor electrical components
  • Track maintenance activities, inventory, and repair records
  • Assist with station operations and emergency response activities as needed
