About The Position

Performs a variety of routine and special activities for maintenance within the Public Works Department. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Friday’s we attempt to work a half day with potential for other hours to support event or snowplow schedule and other emergencies (water breaks, wastewater breaks, etc.). This position requires the ability to provide on-call response (rotating) which may require evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, landscaping, and general construction practices, and standard safety practices.
  • Skill using basic hand tools and operating lawn mowing, landscaping and snow plowing equipment.
  • Ability to be “On Call” during non-regular hours to address snowplowing, water leaks, etc.
  • Ability to start snowplow work shift at 3:00 a.m., as required.
  • Time Management; managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Customer orientated verbal communication skills including the ability to interact with town employees, vendors, and the public in a positive and cooperative manner.

  • Must be able to lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (25-50 lbs.) frequently; objects weighing 50-75 lbs. occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Plowing and cindering of Town maintained roads, parking lots, pathways etc.
  • Assists with routine maintenance, including heavy equipment operations, snowplowing, sweeping, weed control, asphalt maintenance, traffic signs, etc.
  • Assists with the maintenance of wastewater plant and collection system facilities when needed, including routine main flushing, pump and motor repairs, cleaning main blockages, installing taps, etc.
  • Assists with the maintenance of water plant and distribution facilities when needed, including pump and motor repairs, meter reading, water taps, fixing water leaks, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
