About The Position

Reporting to the manager/supervisor, the Technician I – Electrician is responsible for performing maintenance, routine and on-demand services, including installing and repairing electrical wiring and devices related to building and hospital equipment. The incumbent will also be required to perform other general trade duties as directed. The Technician I – Electrician is also responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection. At this position level, the role performs a variety of service work in one or more specialized building systems such as mechanical, electrical / electronic, or machine servicing, etc. The role requires a Certified Electrician and involves working from drawings, schematics, blueprints, job layouts and/or verbal instructions and operating a variety of tools and machines incidental to operations.

Requirements

Completion of a two-year technical degree or equivalent plus two years’ experience as an Electrical Tradesperson or completion of an apprenticeship program.
Requires an Electrical Ticket, including five or more years’ experience in operations and maintenance
High school diploma.
Requires in-depth knowledge of various maintenance fundamentals sufficient to deal with service and repairs.
Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks to the highest caliber, which includes ability to: climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift heavy objects weighing up to 50lbs, etc.
Must be able to work shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
May be required to possess a valid drivers license
May be required to use a variety of hand and power tools or forklift
Ability to provide observation about facility conditions and deficiencies, and to provide suggestions for enhancements
Ability to research, learn and gain greater proficiency in applying the following on-the-job – fire, life, safety and building codes and standards
Possess a strong environmental, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner
Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency
Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification
Working knowledge of computer software applications (computerized maintenance management system experiences an asset)
Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
Perform other duties as required

Some trades-related training preferred (Fire & security systems related courses)
Fire & security systems certification(s) an asset
Valid drivers’ license

Responsibilities

Performs regular facility maintenance and inspection
Provides observations about facility, grounds and non-technical component conditions and deficiencies, and provides suggestions for enhancements and repair
Responds to routine and on-demand service requests
Performs maintenance on technical and non-technical components within the facility
Records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements
Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance work within service maintenance management database. Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
Assists in the implementation of preventative maintenance program. Ensures that deficiencies are identified/rectified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintained
Participates in and assists with facility-related projects
Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements
Maintains all assigned tools and parts inventory and arranges for repair and replacement where required
Assist peers, team members, and others as needed; respectfully request assistance of others where necessary
Assists in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered
