About The Position

This role is for a Maintenance Technician Apprentice responsible for identifying and sourcing parts, performing maintenance according to industry standards, and reading schematics and maintenance orders. The position may involve operating machining tools, performing welding tasks, troubleshooting control systems, and utilizing predictive maintenance technologies. The apprentice will assist lower-level technicians, potentially lead small teams, and adhere strictly to all safety policies and guidelines. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean work area, installing and repairing various equipment, and performing pipe fitting. The role requires the ability to safely operate an overhead crane, use hand tools, and handle parts for machines. Prolonged physical postures such as bending, stooping, walking, standing, and kneeling are expected. The technician must be able to read electrical and hydraulic schematics and complete safety training such as confined space entry, Arc Flash, and lockout/tagout. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 6 months or more of related experience in general industry.
  • Be able to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use overhead crane to lift anything over 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to pass Forklift Certification process.
  • Must have a customer focused, positive attitude with good communication and basic math skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Understands 480 wiring, electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics, fluid power and control systems.
  • Can analyze problems and perform repairs on these systems.
  • Basic knowledge of machinists’ math, heating and air conditioning, welding, and cutting.
  • Able to proficiently use hand tools and specialized tools as needed.
  • Ability to effectively use a PC, testing equipment, and sewer power rodder required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and source parts and supplies to repair or service equipment as necessary.
  • Independently perform maintenance as required by equipment and/or industry standards.
  • Read, understand, and follow schematics and maintenance orders.
  • Setup and operate multiple machining operations including but not limited to: lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Perform some welding tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze control systems to resolve software/hardware and configuration problems.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance technologies to collect equipment performance data.
  • Provide assistance to lower-level technicians and occasionally lead small teams.
  • Follow all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, machine manuals and guidelines.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area complying with all 5S initiatives.
  • Install, maintain, and repair fabrication, machining, welding, material handling, and assembly equipment.
  • Install and maintain 480, 220, and 100 branch electrical service.
  • Pipe fitting (gas, water, air, sprinkler system).
  • Follow and comply with all safety and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Safely operate overhead crane system.
  • Grip, grasp, and manipulate hand tools to service all equipment.
  • Lift, pivot, lower, and push/pull parts into machines.
  • Perform prolonged postures (bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling) while performing all job tasks required.
  • Read electrical schematics and hydraulic schematics.
  • Successfully complete all safety training, i.e.: confined space entry, Arc Flash, lockout/tagout.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
