About The Position

The Entry-Level Maintenance Technician supports the preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of production equipment and facility systems in a Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) manufacturing plant. Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and supervisors, this role helps keep fabrication equipment running safely and reliably while learning the skills needed to minimize downtime and support on-time production of structural steel frames, secondary members, and metal building components.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training, trade school coursework, or related military experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn industrial maintenance in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Basic ability (or strong interest in learning) to work with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, simple schematics, and technical instructions (training provided).
  • Proficiency with common hand tools and power tools; openness to learning diagnostic equipment.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced production environment and respond to emergency repairs as needed.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. frequently and 100+ lbs. occasionally, work at heights, climb ladders, and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Proactive mindset with high initiative and a desire to take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Any prior hands-on experience (internship, apprenticeship, part-time, or personal projects) with machinery, tools, or fabrication equipment.
  • Exposure to CNC equipment, plasma cutters, roll formers, overhead cranes, automated welding systems, or forklifts.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems, motors, or welding/light fabrication.
  • Interest in PEMB, structural steel, or heavy fabrication environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including press brakes, shears, plasma tables, saws, welding equipment (manual and robotic), overhead cranes, and material-handling systems.
  • Help troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems under supervision (including motor controls and sensor-related issues).
  • Replace common worn or defective components such as bearings, belts, motors, sensors, hoses, fittings, cylinders, valves, and gearboxes with guidance as needed.
  • Learn to read and interpret basic schematics, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical drawings to support diagnostics and repairs.
  • Perform facility maintenance tasks including compressed-air systems, lighting, basic plumbing, and general building upkeep as assigned.
  • Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and company policies; maintain a clean and organized maintenance area.
  • Respond to breakdowns promptly and communicate equipment status to production and maintenance leadership.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and on-the-job training to build equipment reliability skills and reduce downtime.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
