About The Position

LOTT Clean Water Alliance is a regional wastewater treatment utility serving Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County. LOTT is proud to be a leader in protecting public health and the environment. LOTT’s Maintenance Technicians play a critical role in keeping facilities and equipment operating safely and efficiently. They perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on equipment essential to LOTT’s wastewater treatment processes. Under general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining the equipment within the LOTT Clean Water Alliance (LOTT) Wastewater Treatment and Reclaimed Water Production Systems.

Requirements

  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in maintaining and rebuilding equipment similar to that found at a water or wastewater treatment plant, and the ability to demonstrate skill in the areas listed above is required (for Maintenance Technician).
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in maintaining similar equipment and the ability to demonstrate skill in the areas listed above is required (for Senior Maintenance Technician).
  • Knowledge of complex, wide-ranging mechanical equipment repair, including pumps, compressors, and other equipment present in the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Knowledge of principles and applications for plumbing, pipefitting, and backflow prevention.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics theory and repair.
  • Knowledge of machining theory and application.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and protection necessary when working in and around raw sewage, in confined spaces, below ground, and at heights.
  • Knowledge of principles and implementation of a preventative maintenance program.
  • Knowledge of Asset Management techniques, and Life Cycle Costing.
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices for working with and around electrical equipment.
  • Skill in mechanical equipment and troubleshooting, repair and associated industry best practices.
  • Skill in welding, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, using MIG, TIG, and SMAW to fabricate parts and repair machinery.
  • Skill in repair and maintenance of pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical equipment.
  • Skill in machining operations to manufacture parts and repair machinery.
  • Ability to independently implement assigned portions of a preventative maintenance program.
  • Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system to document equipment status, track repair history and record work order completion.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment failure and repair in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Ability to read and apply technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex maintenance work.
  • Ability to apply proper safety procedures and precautions.
  • Ability to work from written and/or verbal directions, often under deadline.
  • Ability to operate trucks, forklifts, cranes and booms, portable power tools, arc welders, cutting torches, lathe, milling machine, drill presses, hydraulic presses, pipe-threader, table saw, portable pumps, drills, saws and grinders.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects safely.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and requirements when working in dangerous areas or with power equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and diagnose electrical versus mechanical issues.
  • Ability to serve as the Maintenance representative on engineering projects.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Must participate in LOTT’s Health and Safety Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Backflow Prevention Certification, HVAC 608/609, WA State Treatment Plant certification, and Mainsaver training are preferred (for Maintenance Technician).
  • Backflow Prevention Certification and Mainsaver training is preferred (for Senior Maintenance Technician).
  • Skill in communication, conflict resolution, and working with individuals of diverse backgrounds (for Senior Maintenance Technician).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment in all LOTT Facilities, including the wastewater treatment plant, remote pump stations and Reclaimed water production and distribution systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical operating problems, plan, and carry out corrective action.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Read and accurately interpret drawings and operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Repair or rebuild equipment as necessary.
  • Identify and clearly communicate a work plan and parts list required to effect repairs.
  • Perform a variety of mechanical, pipe fitting, and structural repairs.
  • Fabricate new parts for existing equipment as necessary.
  • Complete various welding projects.
  • Design, layout and install new equipment as necessary to ensure plant remains operational.
  • Participate in the implementation of the LOTT Strategic Asset Management Program, including: preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, inventory of parts and equipment, prioritizing maintenance tasks, and data collection to make repair/replace decisions using the Business Case Evaluation approach.
  • May respond to system breakdown and service calls on 24-hour, year around basis, including weekends and holidays, as required.
  • May assist in training staff, including other Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Workers I and II, and Operations staff.
  • Adhere to LOTT’s Safety Program including updates and modifications to comply with federal and state regulations including, but not limited to, respiratory medical clearance.
  • Safely operate a vehicle to and from offsite facilities, inspection locations, or other location necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
