About The Position

This is a support role that works alongside the Sites and Facilities Superintendent to learn and help lead all aspects of the Sites and Facilities Department. The role requires a strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, the ability to teach and lead others in those trades, and general knowledge of multiple plant systems. The position emphasizes spiritual formation, attentive hospitality, interpersonal relationships, comprehensive stewardship, talent development, and embracing excellence in all duties. The employee must be able to represent Young Life positively and professionally, work with and minister to young people, and maintain a Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. The role involves supervising staff, including full and part-time camping staff, maintenance summer staff, work crew, and volunteers, and ensuring a positive work experience for them. The position also requires managing finances, people, buildings, and equipment with integrity, and documenting all work completed and items maintained. The employee must be adaptable to all work environments, inside and out, and capable of performing various physical tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, ability to teach/lead other staff in those trades
  • Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks
  • General knowledge of multiple plant systems
  • Positive, flexible attitude and willingness to learn
  • Physically able to do the work
  • Must be capable of spending most of the workday standing or walking.
  • Must be adaptable to all work environments, inside and out.
  • Must be capable of working on projects over/above head, as well as bending, kneeling, crawling in/around attics, crawl spaces, etc.
  • Capable of digging, shoveling and raking various compounds.
  • Must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Must subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Must be ready, willing and able to fulfill ministry functions as may be required by the organization.
  • Must refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Must abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification(s) in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired
  • Ability and willingness to obtain certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus.
  • With direction from supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan.
  • Participate in a culture where the spiritual formation of volunteers is both a priority and responsibility.
  • Demonstrate a posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds with professionalism through intentional decisions and systems.
  • Develop a recognition and action plan for guest needs/requests in order to partner with our guests; meeting their needs and supporting an environment where guests are heard.
  • Build relationships that reflect the character of God with guests, staff, vendors and neighbors to foster healthy community.
  • Participate in interdepartmental staff relationship by engaging in partnerships throughout the property.
  • Offer leadership and direction to those workers assigned to you.
  • Supervise staff whom the site and facilities superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter. This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
  • At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment.
  • Work closely with the site and facilities superintendent, guest services coordinator and assigned staff on all matters involving use of the property for the program.
  • Cooperate with all other departments on the property to operate as a team and produce a well-functioning body.
  • Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the camping manager.
  • Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry through Sites and Facilities.
  • Develop and equip interns and volunteers to participate in comprehensive stewardship of Sites and Facilities department.
  • Support an environment where volunteers feel valued both as contributors and as people.
  • Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at the property.
  • Maintain operating records as required by the site and facilities superintendent.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
  • Execute daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
  • Develop a commitment to uphold the Young Life Food Service Standards as listed in the Food Service Manual.
  • Develop an understanding of the Young Life Standards and how they affect the way you conduct yourself with staff, guests, and volunteers.
  • Execute all DIN items assigned.
  • Execute all PM items assigned.
  • Document all work completed and items maintained.
  • Execute all duties as assigned.
  • Supervise/assist with small and capital projects as assigned.
  • Pace Calls that align with the employee’s IDP goals.
