About The Position

The Maintenance Technician 2 position is responsible for supporting production by ensuring minimal downtime due to mechanical equipment malfunction. The Maintenance Technician 2 will be expected to work under the direction of Maintenance Technician 3’s as well as the Maintenance & Tooling Manager in administering planned and unplanned preventative maintenance, breakdown repair and upgrade measures on all Facility related mechanical equipment. This includes proper and in-depth documentation of all administered tasks both planned and unplanned. The Maintenance Technician 2 will also handle other maintenance related functions on a daily basis including but not limited to piping, mechanical repairs, and maintenance of the buildings & grounds. The Maintenance Technician 2 will also be expected to assist/mentor/educate Maintenance Technician 1’s. It will be the expectation of the Maintenance Technician 2 to develop his/her skills in order to prove themself in order to move up to Maintenance Technician 3 level within a reasonable and agreed amount of time.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Connecticut E-2 Unlimited Journeymans License
  • 2+ years of previous Industrial manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with drive systems is a MUST.
  • Must have a positive can do attitude and a sense of accountability; takes initiative.
  • Must be a fast learner, driven and self-motivated; strive towards continuous improvement.
  • Required to maintain a clean and presentable appearance.
  • Technician is expected to be prepared to do their job function, and at their workstation by the beginning of the shift.
  • Technicians are expected to have minimum unplanned absences, as defined by the "Employee Attendance Expectations".
  • The Technician must maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area. This includes maintaining all tools and equipment.
  • It is expected that the Technician works well with others; work cooperatively between shifts and departments in order that the overall company benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate all Orafol manufacturing equipment while understanding/following all OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Understand and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Be a self-starter who can work in a fast paced/everchanging environment both individually and alongside a team of trained Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls Technicians.
  • Maintain Facility equipment by interpreting machine prints/schematics, both mechanical and electrical, as well as technical and machine manuals.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to log and track planned and unplanned preventative maintenance work.
  • Look up and place order requests for spare parts.
  • Set-up, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanically driven Extrusion Equipment.
  • Utilize carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, fabricating, and shop tools (including Lathe and Bridgeport) to maintain and troubleshoot Facility related equipment both inside and along the grounds (including: Painting, Weeding, Snow Removal, Cleaning, Lighting, etc.)
  • Make various machinery related repairs including the replacement of damaged/worn/broken parts.
  • Read/interpret various instruments such as micrometers, calipers, electrical testing meters/equipment, tape measures, combination squares etc.
  • Answer line calls on a production line as well as provide support during Extrusion teardowns and/or changeovers.
  • Make recommendations to the Maintenance & Tooling Manager & Plant Manager on jobs to be completed, improvements to enhance machinery performance and determination of scope and best practices required to complete said tasks.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical malfunctions, equipment failures.
  • Fully understand and adhere to the ARC Flash and Electrical Shock Prevention policy.
  • Support and follow the Lock Out / Tag Out program.
  • Pass a comprehensive Powered Industrial Truck training and testing program in order to safely operate PIT’s in the facility.
  • Examine and test components and plant support systems to ensure that they are in compliance with all standards and regulations.
  • Make mechanical diagnostic evaluations as well as prescribing corrective actions without the assistance of others.
  • Support and participate in plant improvement projects, reliability initiatives, and other key plant level initiatives.
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills.
