Requirements

  • Knowledge of general janitorial techniques, cleaning supplies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Skill in providing quality customer service.
  • Ability to use personal computer, skill in using Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to plan, organize and work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of custodial work, i.e., heavy lifting and moving desk, filing cabinets, heavy furniture, and equipment.
  • Ability to promptly meet work schedule for custodial services.
  • Ability to handle multi tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions through to completion of assignments.
  • Ability to work as a team member and get along with peers, supervisors, and customers.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • A current, valid Driver’s License is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year experience in custodial/janitorial services.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder, and be on feet for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires a valid Class (A, B, C, or E) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.
  • Male applicants born on or after October 1, 1962, will not be eligible for hire or promotion in the Career Service, or appointment in the Selected Exempt Service (SES) or Senior Management Service (SMS), unless they are registered with the Selective Service System (SSS) before their 26th birthday, or have a Letter of Registration Exemption from the SSS.

Responsibilities

  • Clean all entrance doors and glass windows to Burns building, Auditorium, Johnson Building and Springhill facility daily.
  • Clean cigarette urns, polish wood & clean glass at receptionist/security desk, dispose of wastepaper, dust furniture (partitions & air vents), clean floors (sweep, mop, and dust mop), stairwells, bathrooms, clean & sanitize drinking fountains and walls daily.
  • Stock supplies used in custodial carts and bathrooms and report low inventory to the supervisor.
  • Walk grounds and parking lots and pick up trash & debris, sweep parking lot steps.
  • Load and unload trucks (including surplus property) and move furniture (to include disassemble, reassemble and set up) or other heavy equipment and materials.
  • Keep surplus and workstation parts warehouse clean and organized.
  • Receive, complete, & respond to general facility work order request via the work order system.
  • Moves furniture to & from building for surplus.
  • Assist with conference room(s) and auditorium furniture set up/arrangement.
  • Responsible for maintaining all bulletin boards.
  • Assist with minor maintenance repairs and monthly preventative maintenance (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), check fire extinguishers at Springhill Rd facility.
  • Carries tools and parts to and from storage and work areas.
