About The Position

Under general direction, this working supervisor oversees, plans, directs, and participates in the maintenance, repair, and activities of the Distribution Department including the installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, meters, services, and related appurtenances. This role also organizes and directs the work of the fleet maintenance program, assists with budget preparation, and prepares and submits a variety of administrative and regulatory reports. The position provides complex assistance to management staff in areas of expertise and performs related work as required. This position is designated as Chief Plant Operator (CPO). The Maintenance Supervisor is an advanced journey-level position that independently performs highly technical and specialized duties related to the District's infrastructure. The incumbent in this position has strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills; the ability to work without extensive supervision; with advanced journey-level knowledge of the underground construction industry, fleet maintenance, and operation of light to heavy equipment. The Maintenance Supervisor must be well-organized and strongly focused on safety at all times. This position receives general direction from the Director of Operations and is responsible for leading, planning, prioritizing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of assigned staff. The incumbent ensures compliance within set standards, while providing technical guidance, functional direction, and training to team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of broad and extensive experience within the water distribution industry, including the safe operation of heavy equipment, repair and maintenance of water main lines, hydrants, and service connections.
  • Experience in emergency main line shutdowns, and proper knowledge of loading and testing a main.
  • Basic knowledge of Cla-Vals and an understanding of pressure-reducing stations and altitude valves.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a lead position or as a supervisor.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess and maintain: California Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Must possess and maintain: State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Grade III or higher Water Distribution Operator Certificate.
  • Must possess and maintain: State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) Grade I or higher Water Treatment Operator Certificate.
  • This is a safety-sensitive and Federally regulated DOT position subject to the District's Drug Prevention and Employee Testing Program, which is conducted in accordance with Title 49 CFR Part 40.

Nice To Haves

  • Continued education units are required to maintain certifications and are the responsibility of the employee with support from the District.
  • Trench shoring, confined space, and other hazardous condition training will be provided by the District and must be attended by the employee.
  • Must obtain and maintain competent person status. Training will be provided by the District.
