About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor for Utilities, HVAC & Controls for their client site in Groton, CT. The successful candidate will direct a workforce of technicians and professionals engaged in a variety of activities in the management of a pharmaceutical facility. This role requires outstanding supervisory, troubleshooting, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair skills, with a commitment to delivering unparalleled excellence in customer service and satisfaction. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with potential for varied hours based on business demand.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Ability to produce an appropriate driver's license.
  • Six (6) or more years of hands-on experience in HVAC, central chilled-water plants, and mechanical utilities.
  • At least three (3) years in a supervisory, lead, or chief-operator capacity.
  • Experience with enterprise BMS/BAS platforms, including alarm management, trending, and sequence-of-operations.
  • Technical knowledge of industrial electrical and mechanical systems with the ability to prioritize, assign, track, and trend equipment history.
  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation for respirator use and complete a fit test.
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, hospital, semiconductor, data-center, or other mission-critical / regulated environment strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent trade school credentials.
  • Experience working in a GMP or similar regulated environment.
  • Experience utilizing a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) and Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Visio.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operational stewardship of campus systems and assets including air-handling units, heating systems, humidity control, space pressurization, filtration, chillers, cooling towers, steam systems, domestic and process water systems, pumps, motors, emergency generators, utility metering, and campus BMS/BAS.
  • Provide direct supervision to HVAC, Chiller Plant, Utilities Maintenance, and BMS leads, and through them, to technicians, operators, and specialists.
  • Establish shift coverage, on-call rotations, overtime plans, and surge staffing for planned outages, seasonal peaks, and emergency events.
  • Set daily and weekly priorities balancing preventive maintenance, corrective work, projects, and research-driven requests.
  • Hire, onboard, coach, evaluate, and discipline personnel.
  • Build cross-training to ensure knowledge sharing.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and pre-job briefs covering safety topics like LOTO, confined space, hot work, refrigerant handling, and chemical hazards.
  • Manage the day-to-day operating posture of the central chiller plant.
  • Ensure HVAC systems maintain specified environmental parameters for laboratories and controlled environments.
  • Direct response to environmental excursions, plant trips, loss of redundancy, and utility interruptions.
  • Coordinate seasonal changeovers, winterization, and peak-load readiness.
  • Oversee the preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance program in the site CMMS (Maximo).
  • Drive PM completion, investigate backlogs and repeat failures, and initiate root-cause analysis.
  • Specify and oversee PdM methods such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared thermography, and ultrasonic leak detection.
  • Manage spare-parts strategy for critical components.
  • Ensure the BMS is maintained as an operational tool and a GxP-relevant data source.
  • Establish alarm philosophy for effective operator response.
  • Review trends after excursions and significant changes, documenting findings.
  • Operate assigned systems in a manner consistent with cGMP expectations, including good documentation practices (GDP).
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, ASME, and local jurisdictional requirements for various systems.
  • Investigate deviations, environmental monitoring failures, and utility-related quality events, contributing to CAPAs.
  • Enforce OSHA and site EHS requirements.
  • Maintain emergency operating procedures for various utility and HVAC emergencies.
  • Serve as a primary facilities responder or incident commander-support for utility and HVAC emergencies.
  • Lead after-action reviews following major outages and incorporate lessons learned.
