About The Position

This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as the Maintenance Supervisor I - SES within the Maintenance Services Unit. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: This is advanced professional work supervising and directing employees. The primary duty of the incumbent in this position is to spend the majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to effectively recommend actions such as: hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, promote, discharge, assign, and reward or discipline direct reports. Evaluates employees against established standards and takes appropriate actions when necessary (i.e. recognition, reward, corrective action, etc.). Directs the work of subordinate staff to ensure maximum use of time and resources. Responsible for recruitment, selection, training and overall coordination of subordinate positions. Motivates and trains employees utilizing Total Quality Management principles to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Communicates work plans, work objectives, and progress reports with employees and customers on a regular basis. Plans and inspects work performed by staff. Requisitions necessary tools, equipment, and materials essential to sensure proper repairs and work project completion. Completes quarterly reviews and probationary/annual evaluations for employees utilizing established department evaluation criteria. Performs additional dutes as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in the repair and maintenance of wooden structures, plumbing and other equipment.
  • Skill in using hand, power and bench tools.
  • Skill in repairing and maintaining wooden structures, including furniture and fixtures.
  • Skill in performing brick and cement work.
  • Skill in performing electrical repairs.
  • Skill in painting surfaces.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with others.
  • Must be able to travel up 17 stairs and 50 feet in 30 seconds.
  • Must be able to go up and down 17 stairs 8 times in 8 hours.
  • Must have normal vision and hearing, including use of corrective devices.
  • Must be able to work with or around cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Must be able to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck and head; up to 60 movements in 1 hour.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of training, some of which requires physical activity such as CPR, MANDT and Heimlich training.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, push and stoop 10 times in one hour, if necessary.
  • Must be able to physically operate all equipment necessary to do job tasks, including using a keyboard for 1 hour.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds or drag 150 pounds for 3 feet distance.
  • Must be able to carry up to 15 pounds up 17 stairs in 1 minute.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for 1 hour without a break.
  • Must be able to walk 800 feet without stopping in 5 minutes.
  • Must be able to work 16-hour shifts on occasion.
  • Must be able to remain alert for a period of 1 to 16 hours including normal breaks.
  • Must be able to drive an EZ Go or vehicle up to 3 hours at one time if job essential.
