About The Position

We are seeking a part-time Janitorial/Maintenance Specialist. As Janitorial/Maintenance Specialist, you will oversee the cleaning and maintenance of Westmoreland Community Action buildings, equipment, and furniture, as well as leased properties in the New Kensington/Kiski/Lower Burrell areas. The Janitor / Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment across Head Start, Early Head Start, and Pre-K Counts program sites. This position supports routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Prior cleaning or maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Push/pull, lift/move up to 75 pounds.
  • Perform moderately difficult tasks, able to lift, push and carry.
  • Perform tasks which require foot and/or hand/eye coordination - driving a car.
  • Walk, stand, bend, stoop for long periods of time, drive.
  • Able to articulate with other employees and management.
  • Read print, drive a car.
  • Ability to communicate with employees and management.
  • Able to concentrate on task with some interruption.
  • Able to attend to task function for more that 60 minutes.
  • Able to understand and relate tasks given.
  • Able to remember multiple verbal and written task-assignments given at beginning of a period extending over long period of time.
  • Indoor work/Outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine cleaning of restrooms, hallways, and common areas
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors and surfaces
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch areas in accordance with health standards
  • Maintain supplies such as paper products and cleaning materials
  • Remove trash
  • Perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and tightening fixtures
  • Assist with seasonal tasks including snow removal and salting walkways
  • Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
  • Assist with furniture movement and room setup as needed
  • Follow all agency safety procedures and licensing standards
  • Ensure proper use and storage of cleaning products
  • Maintain a safe environment for children, families, and staff
  • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail
  • Work independently and manage time effectively
  • Travel between program sites as needed
