About The Position

The Maintenance Service Attendant supports the safe, clean, and reliable operation of the City's transit fleet, with primary responsibility for washing, cleaning, and detailing the interior and exterior of City buses and other fleet vehicles. The position performs routine fueling, checks and replenishes vehicle fluids, prepares buses for daily service, and helps maintain clean, safe, and organized transit and fleet facilities. The position also provides general support to mechanics and technicians, retrieves parts and supplies, maintains fueling and service records, and assists with other routine fleet support activities. The position operates, transports, and relocates City buses and fleet vehicles for servicing and operational needs, including during emergencies, service disruptions, vehicle breakdowns, and severe weather events. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol testing requirements in accordance with applicable federal regulations.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Six (6) months to one (1) year vehicle maintenance, fleet operations, transit operations, automotive service, equipment maintenance, or a related field.
Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) training within 3 months of employment.
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) B with Passenger Endorsement or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and techniques used in basic mechanical repair of vehicles.
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job,
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Previous experience in transit, fleet, automotive, heavy equipment, or municipal/public-sector operations.

Responsibilities

Washes, cleans, and details the interior and exterior of City buses and fleet vehicles to maintain established cleanliness and service standards.
Fuels City buses and other fleet vehicles and performs associated fueling activities in accordance with established safety and operational procedures.
Assists mechanics and technicians with preventive maintenance, routine inspections, minor repairs, and other vehicle service activities.
Transports, delivers, and retrieves City buses and fleet vehicles for maintenance, repair, servicing, or other operational needs.
Transports and relocates buses during emergencies, service disruptions, vehicle breakdowns, severe weather events, or other situations requiring immediate operational support.
Retrieves parts, supplies, tools, and materials and assists with inventory control and organization.
Maintains accurate vehicle service, maintenance, inspection, fueling, and related records in accordance with departmental procedures.
Cleans and maintains fleet and transit facilities, including maintenance shops, work areas, yards, fueling areas, tools, and equipment.
Safely operates City buses, fleet vehicles, tools, and equipment required to perform assigned duties.
Responds to operational and service needs in a timely manner to support fleet and transit availability and continuity of operations.
Follows established safety procedures, departmental practices, City policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Provides operational support during special projects, emergencies, severe weather events, and other departmental needs as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
