About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking a Maintenance Repairer to join our team! This is a full-time position scheduled Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. during boiler operation. The Maintenance Repairer position will perform general maintenance work either independently or assisting other maintenance department personnel. Examples of the type of work performed include painting and plastering, carpentry, assistance with plumbing and HVAC systems, assistance with electrical systems, assistance with communication systems, vehicle operations, snow removal, grounds care, and landscaping. This position will also operate the power plant equipment during heating season, including boilers and generators. Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position. IMHI provides inpatient treatment and acute psychiatric services, including individualized treatment plans and support for children and adolescent patients to continue their education. Individuals are encouraged to collaborate with staff members in formulating their own plan. Medication, group counseling, and activities therapies might be included as well. Requirements

  • Three years of full-time work experience in two or more of the recognized building and mechanical trades (carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, machinist, machine repair, masonry, painting, pipefitting, plumbing, refrigeration, and welding).
  • Three years of a combination of experience (as described in number one) and education, where thirty semester hours of post high school education in an accredited building or mechanical vocational program equals one year of experience.
  • Current and continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper.
