About The Position

The Maintenance Repairer 2 plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of HVAC systems by performing routine preventive maintenance tasks such as changing filters and belts, cleaning coils, greasing bearings, and clearing condensate lines. This position involves conducting inspections, making necessary repairs, and keeping accurate service records. It is classified as a Journeyman role within the HVAC department and requires fundamental skills in HVAC maintenance and preventive care.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Will require an MVR
  • Subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
  • Classified as a safety and security-sensitive position.
  • Considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
  • Will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.
  • Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.
  • Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.

  • A permanent or probationary internal employee who is appointed to another position following certification from an open competitive eligible list is considered a new employee in the new position and shall serve a probationary period of six months.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly replace air filters in HVAC systems to ensure clean airflow and optimal system efficiency.
  • Inspect and replace belts in air handling units (AHUs) and fan motors to prevent breakdowns
  • Lubricate fan and motor bearings in HVAC units to reduce friction, prevent wear, and extend equipment life.
  • Clean evaporator and condenser coils to maintain efficient heat exchange and improve energy efficiency.
  • Clear blockages in condensate drain lines to prevent overflow and water damage to the HVAC system and surrounding areas.
  • Perform HVAC repairs under the guidance of a senior technician while ensuring all tasks are completed safely and in compliance with university standards.
  • Perform routine inspections of HVAC systems, identifying potential issues such as worn parts, leaks, or abnormal operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Department including emergency work when required.
