Maintenance Repairer 1
About The Position
McNeese State University is hiring a Maintenance Repairer 1 for its Maintenance Department. The position makes minor repairs to buildings, facilities, grounds, locks, light equipment, and appliances, and performs general maintenance in shop areas and across campus. It is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week classified position, considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act; overtime may be mandatory. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and Friday, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. The entry pay rate is $17.18 per hour ($35,734 annually). The selected candidate must complete a comprehensive background check, including a criminal history review, and will be subject to drug and alcohol testing upon hire and randomly during employment. The position involves operating and maintaining public vehicles and may require a valid driver's license and clear driving record when driving on behalf of the University.
Requirements
- One year of experience or training in building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or a combination of those courses.
- Complete a comprehensive background check, including a criminal history review.
- Submit to drug and alcohol testing upon hire and on a random basis throughout employment.
- May need a valid driver's license and a clear driving record if required to drive on behalf of the University.
Responsibilities
- Repair the interior and exterior of buildings and facilities and maintain furniture and equipment.
- Provide basic maintenance support to the plumber, carpenter, painter, electrician, HVAC, and automotive shops.
- Replace and adjust worn or damaged belts, plugs, fuses, hoses, and similar items.
- Check small engines for safety and maintenance needs.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on cars, vans, trucks, forklifts, and other vehicles.
- Perform other duties assigned by the foreman, superintendent, or director.
