About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across district facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, and exteriors. Duties include maintaining furniture, fixtures, and HVAC systems, as well as completing general repairs such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work. The role ensures facilities and equipment remain safe, functional, and well-maintained to support daily operations. This position requires the applicant to possess a valid Louisiana Class “E” Driver’s License.

Requirements

One year of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Six semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.
Possess a valid Louisiana Class “E” Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

Perform general maintenance and repairs on district-wide facilities, including buildings, grounds, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and HVAC systems.
Complete repairs involving painting, plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work.
Maintain and repair various equipment, including performing tune-ups, replacing worn or damaged parts, and making necessary adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Operate a variety of equipment and vehicles, conducting routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance checks.
Repair appliances by diagnosing issues, replacing components, and making required adjustments.
Maintain accurate maintenance and service records; prepare material requisitions and estimate labor and supplies needed for repairs.
Train and assist in the development of new or lower-level employees.
Perform custodial duties, including cleaning and sanitizing buildings across the District 61 headquarters compound.
Strip and wax floors, shampoo carpets, and set up or break down conference rooms for meetings and training sessions.
Support emergency and disaster response operations and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
