The Maintenance Repairperson must exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with CHC customers and represent CHC in a positive manner. As a member of the Zone team and under the supervision of the Zone Manager and the Senior Manager/Maintenance and Restoration, the Maintenance Repairperson is responsible for carrying out general repairs throughout assigned neighborhoods. A significant portion of the time in this position will involve carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and heating repairs, investigation of repairs as needed, and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform a broad range of maintenance repairs, as normally acquired through several years’ directly related work experience or equivalent.
• Proficiency in the use of tools and equipment, safety procedures, and supplies related to the performance of these duties.
• The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to deal tactfully and resourcefully with tenants, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required, and the use of an automobile may be required.
• All Maintenance Repairpersons must maintain Fall Arrest Certification, WHMIS and any other certification training or workshop as required by Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation.

Responsibilities

• Repairing doors, windows and screens; removing and setting floor tiles, and installing and repairing hardwood floors.
• Repairing kitchen cabinets or cupboards, removing and replacing countertops and sinks.
• Minor plumbing and electrical repairs to switches, fixtures, and outlets.
• Undertaking plaster, tile, and masonry repairs; repairing exterior porches and siding including eaves troughs and downspouts.
• Maintaining a stock inventory and informing supervisor when materials are getting low, maintaining workshop, tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Assisting in preparation of vacated units as required, completing and signing relevant sections of work orders and returning same promptly.
• Other duties as assigned.
