About The Position

The State of Ohio is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 (MRW3) to provide skilled maintenance repair of the facility and act as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to youth workers in the performance of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair. This role involves performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and operating machine tools and welding equipment. The position requires continuous inspection of buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements and performing systematic and routine preventive maintenance. Hours are generally 8 AM to 4 PM, with potential for overtime, including weekend hours for tasks like snow removal and facility assistance.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in maintenance repair (e.g., basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
  • Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
  • In Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190).
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled maintenance repair of the facility.
  • Act as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to youth workers in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair.
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled carpentry and masonry repairs (e.g., door, cabinet locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, partitions, steps).
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled plumbing equipment repairs (e.g., water & steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, toilets, sinks, heating, air conditioning, boilers).
  • Operate machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.
  • On a continuous basis, inspect buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements.
  • Perform systematic and routine preventive maintenance of assigned areas.
  • Assist in other areas of the facility as needed.
  • Perform snow removal in the winter.
