About The Position

The State of Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 (MRW3) to provide skilled maintenance repair of the facility. This role involves acting as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to youth workers in the performance of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair tasks. The position requires performing a range of repairs including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and operating machine tools and welding equipment. Continuous inspection of buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements, along with systematic and routine preventive maintenance, is also a key responsibility. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in maintenance repair (e.g., basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
  • Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
  • In Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190).
  • Background check and pre-employment drug screening required.
  • Must attend 3 weeks of mandatory, paid Pre-Service Training at the DYS Training Academy in Orient, Ohio.

  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled maintenance repair of the facility.
  • Act as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to youth workers in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair.
  • Perform carpentry and/or masonry repairs (e.g., door, cabinet locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, partitions, steps).
  • Perform repairs on plumbing equipment (e.g., water & steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, toilets, sinks, heating, air conditioning, boilers).
  • Operate machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.
  • On a continuous basis, inspect buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements.
  • Perform systematic and routine preventive maintenance of the assigned area.
