Maintenance Repair Worker 3 - Ely
About The Position
The Nevada Department of Corrections is seeking to fill a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 position at Ely State Prison. This role involves performing a wide range of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks across various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, mechanical, welding, and machining. The incumbent will be responsible for following maintenance schedules, performing repairs, identifying maintenance needs, and ensuring building and grounds equipment, as well as vehicles, are in proper working order. This is an advanced journey-level position requiring judgment and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
Requirements
- Two years of experience performing semi-skilled work in a relevant building and/or mechanical trade; OR one year of experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of the characteristics and quality of materials used in relevant trades areas.
- Ability to adapt standard repair and maintenance procedures or methods to accommodate unusual circumstances.
- Ability to determine what repairs should be referred to a journey level trades worker.
- Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled work relevant to the position in one or more of the major building or mechanical trades to include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, welding, heating, refrigeration and air conditioning, or equipment mechanics.
- Ability to diagnose the cause and extent of common equipment, component or basic system malfunctions.
Responsibilities
- Follow a maintenance and preventive maintenance schedule and document completion.
- Survey and inspect assigned facilities to identify maintenance and preventative maintenance needs.
- Perform basic plumbing work, including pipe installation, fixture repair, and drain clearing.
- Perform basic carpentry work, including patching roofs, framing, installing doors, pouring concrete, repairing furniture, and installing locks and windows.
- Perform basic interior and exterior painting work, including taping, finishing sheetrock, and applying paint.
- Perform basic electrical work, including conduit installation, wiring, fixture installation, circuit testing, and maintenance of parking lot lights and appliances.
- Perform basic mechanical repairs and maintenance on pumps, valves, fans, and other mechanical equipment.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and repair work on building and grounds equipment and vehicles.
- Perform basic welding and machining work, including shaping ductwork, constructing racks, welding gates and fences, and repairing tools and equipment.
- Order materials and supplies required for repairs and maintenance.
- Maintain routine records related to work performed and supplies used.
- Monitor, service, and make basic repairs to boilers, furnaces, and air conditioning systems.
- Perform related duties and manual labor as assigned.
