About The Position

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is seeking a Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 for its Facilities & Campus Operations department. This role involves maintaining, repairing, and modifying plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and paint work. The position also includes responsibilities such as working special events, training staff, performing installations, drywall repair, troubleshooting electrical issues, installing window coverings, working with vendors, prioritizing workload, managing work orders via Jira, building and moving furniture, handling customer interactions, and ensuring all duties are performed safely and according to institutional policies.

Requirements

  • Four years (4) of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two (2) or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
  • A valid Class “C” Nevada driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and modify plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and paint work.
  • Work special events and space set up.
  • Train part-time laborers, student workers, and subordinate staff.
  • Install toilets and sinks.
  • Perform drywall repair and installation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Install window coverings.
  • Work with vendors and contractors.
  • Coordinate and effectively prioritize work-load.
  • Manage work orders using the Jira system.
  • Build, set up, and move furniture.
  • Handle irate customers in difficult situations in a helpful manner.
  • Communicate with clients to determine needs.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner according to institutional policy and procedure.
  • Keep others involved and informed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
