About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 (HVAC), Facilities Management. This role performs a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work. This position performs skilled mechanical and electrical maintenance under the general supervision of the Facility Supervisor, completing assigned work orders involving component replacement (motors, belts, filters, switches, and valves), lubrication, calibration, adjustments, and minor repairs not requiring EPA certification.

Requirements

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • A valid class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and all certifications and licenses must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain water treatment systems within manufacturer and facility specifications, coordinating with water treatment vendors as needed. Inspect and verify the proper operation of pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, strainers, valves, and chemical feed systems to ensure efficient and reliable performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, air handlers, HVAC systems, cooling towers, and other building equipment, including seasonal start-up and shutdown procedures, filter replacement, coil and basin cleaning, water level monitoring, and heating system inspections.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot boilers, air handlers, HVAC systems, cooling towers, and related mechanical equipment to identify deficiencies, equipment failures, and system malfunctions. Determine and implement appropriate corrective actions to restore safe and efficient operation.
  • Provide maintenance and repair support across multiple skilled trades, including plumbing, building systems, and structural maintenance.
  • Maintained accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and preventive maintenance documentation to ensure compliance with facility standards and support equipment reliability.
  • May serve as a lead worker or first line supervisor to semi-skilled or general labor staff such as maintenance repair workers, part time and temporary workers; maintain assigned equipment and facility records and prepare related reports.
