Maintenance Reliability Engineer
About The Position
Gerdau is seeking a Maintenance Reliability Engineer to join their team. This role is focused on developing and improving maintenance programs, leading failure analysis investigations, and driving equipment reliability to reduce unplanned downtime. The engineer will analyze data to enhance asset performance, implement condition monitoring programs, and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams. Responsibilities also include supporting major projects, developing KPI reporting, and mentoring technicians. The position is located in the Greater Richmond Region of south-central Virginia, with relocation assistance available within the U.S. Gerdau is a stable, dividend-paying company committed to sustainability, producing steel from recycled scrap.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related discipline OR HS/GED and 6-8 years of equivalent industrial experience
- 3+ years of reliability, maintenance, engineering, or asset management experience
- Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, chemical processing, power generation, mining, metals, pulp and paper, or similar environments
- Knowledge of RCFA, RCM, FMEA, TPM, or predictive maintenance methodologies
- Experience with CMMS systems such as SAP, Maximo, or Infor
- Strong troubleshooting, data analysis, and communication skills
- Willingness to spend significant time in the field alongside maintenance teams
Nice To Haves
- CMRP or CRE certification
- Experience with vibration analysis or other predictive maintenance technologies
- Lean, TPM, or Six Sigma exposure
Responsibilities
- Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and FMEA investigations
- Drive equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime
- Analyze maintenance and operational data to improve asset performance
- Implement vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication, and condition monitoring programs
- Partner closely with operations and maintenance teams on reliability improvements
- Support major shutdowns, overhauls, and capital projects
- Develop KPI reporting and reliability metrics
- Mentor technicians and promote reliability best practices
