About The Position

Calpine, a business unit of Constellation Energy Corporation, is America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources. This role creates plans for the continued operation of equipment and systems, determines and monitors maintenance and operation work schedules, and develops and implements work schedules in coordination with plant management and project managers. The position involves planning long- and short-term business objectives related to equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement, managing long lead time items, and providing expert advice on resource and material management. The role also involves investigating and resolving maintenance issues, assessing the priority of maintenance requests, determining job requirements and staffing resources, and integrating plant needs with maintenance/operation resources to develop detailed work schedules and labor hour studies. Additionally, the role formulates maintenance plans, provides budgetary information, material requirement lists, budget tracking tools, and develops metrics for performance improvement. It also involves administering schedule changes due to backlogs, design changes, and material or labor shortages, and providing strategic analysis on equipment modification or replacement. The role ensures all documentation, including MOCs, Job Plans, and Safety work plans, is complete. The position also manages inventory, warehouse counts, and ensures annual remediation of obsolete equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and vocational/technical experience and education in maintenance, engineering-related field, or equivalent.
  • Expert in department-specific software, databases, and spreadsheets; strong understanding of power maintenance/plant operations functions, administrative controls, or related.
  • Generally requires 4-7 years’ of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment as well as mastery of maintenance and control operations functions necessary to administer maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Creates plans that permit the continued operation of equipment and systems affecting the company’s business operations to a substantial degree.
  • Determines, monitors, and administers maintenance and operation work schedules to meet plant productivity needs.
  • Develops and implements work schedules after evaluating maintenance, operations, and engineering needs in coordination with plant management and project managers.
  • Plans long- and short-term business objectives involving maintenance, repair, and replacement of equipment.
  • Manages long lead time items.
  • Provides consultation and expert advice to management team on managing resources and material.
  • Investigates and resolves maintenance issues.
  • Assesses priority of maintenance requests (both long- and short-term), determining job requirements, and determining appropriate staffing resources.
  • Integrates plant needs with maintenance/operation resources in developing detailed work schedules and labor hour studies.
  • Formulates maintenance plans, provides budgetary information, material requirement list, budget tracking tools, and develops metrics to demonstrate performance and drive improvements of maintenance operations.
  • Administers schedule changes due to backlogs, design changes, and material or labor shortages.
  • Provides strategic analysis based on evaluating possible repairs and deciding whether equipment needs to be modified or replaced.
  • Confirms that all documentation, including all MOC’s, Job Plans, Safety work plans, etc are complete so work can proceed.
  • Manages inventory, inventory warehouse counts, and works to ensure obsolete equipment is remediated at a minimum on an annual basis.
  • Seasoned professional with administrative skill and advanced applied experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance and plant operations.
  • Advanced knowledge in the use of Maximo, Job Planning, labor management, and job estimating. Able to navigate and use all asset and financial tools for tracking historical work records.
  • Administers maintenance program with particular emphasis on establishing job plans to effect operation/maintenance performance and efficiencies.
  • Manages outage readiness check lists for required planning periods.
  • Serves as a SME and conducts inspection work.
  • Makes decisions concerning complex issues regarding project components and tasks.
  • Ability to create job and Safe Work Plans.
  • Leads, researches, prepares, plans and schedules exercising discretion in formulating solutions using independent decision-making.
  • Collaborates with operations on hazard isolation and critical component requirements.
  • Makes decisions requiring exercise of discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance ranging from moderate to complex maintenance and operations planning issues.
  • Directs senior professional in selection of methods, techniques, and analytical approaches.
  • Develops and maintains planning for long and short-term business objectives, develops maintenance reports, standards, metrics and policies.
  • Manages equipment lead times.
  • Administers maintenance planning based on general plant and operations policies with little or no day-to-day direction.
  • Administers work of professionals, technicians, and others both inside and outside of own department.
  • Work is primarily office or non-manual work related to the plant maintenance operations.
  • Must compare and evaluate possible courses of action and make a decision after various possibilities have been considered.
  • Has authority to wave or deviate from established policies and procedures in exceptional circumstances.
  • Advises management on best policies and practices for coordinating resources to achieve maintenance goal and regularly keeps management abreast on actionable solutions to planning issues.
  • Collaborate and solve problems – works with others to resolve significant issues in the plant, clarifies or interprets complex information, provide initial screening/remediation.
