About The Position

The County of Lambton is seeking a full-time Maintenance Person to provide maintenance and custodial services for community housing buildings. This role involves maintaining indoor and outdoor areas, building systems, and associated equipment. The position also includes front-line customer service to rental clients and requires on-call coverage for after-hours matters. The County of Lambton is a large employer in Southwestern Ontario, committed to sustainability, economic growth, and providing responsive services to its approximately 128,000 residents.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Two years of work-related experience
  • WHMIS training
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • Use of a vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Maintain indoor areas by painting, cleaning common areas (lobbies, hallways, stairwells, washrooms, laundry rooms, lounges, shops), and completing lock changes.
  • Maintain outdoor areas including painting parking lot lines, landscaping, gardening, lawn care, snow removal, and salting.
  • Maintain building systems such as air units, heating systems, and building safety systems.
  • Complete repairs from normal wear and tear, damages, or neglect, including electrical hardware (receptacles, switches, fuses, lights), plumbing (unclogging drains, repairing faucets, replacing toilets), and move-out repairs (doors, window screens, caulking).
  • Perform minor repairs to mechanical, heating, ventilation, and emergency power equipment, ensuring safety precautions (PPE, lockout/tag out) are taken.
  • Maintain necessary equipment such as mowers, leaf blowers, grass trimmers, snow blowers, floor machines, and tools.
  • Maintain County trucks, including daily inspections.
  • Clean appliances, cupboards, bathrooms, windows, and floors of units during turnover.
  • Show vacant units to prospective tenants.
  • Dispose of garbage, clean garbage collection areas, playground areas, and perform litter pick-up, including large items.
  • Tag non-roadworthy vehicles for removal.
  • Perform annual smoke alarm inspections, cleaning, and legal documentation.
  • Assist property manager with inspections, quality control, Sheriff lockouts, and delivery of notices to tenants.
  • Report issues or concerns such as damages, equipment failures, or concerning behaviors.
  • Maintain adequate stock of materials, parts, and supplies.
  • Maintain SDS book.
  • Operate the housing vehicle and trailer safely and efficiently.
  • Utilize technology including cell phones, computers, printers, and software systems.
  • Provide on-call coverage to respond to after-hour Housing building matters.
  • Keep up-to-date on relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, and County Policies and Procedures.
  • Possess the physical ability to meet job duties and responsibilities.
