About The Position

This position serves as the Maintenance Operations Supervisor for the Department of Corrections. The selected candidate will serve as an expert providing technical oversight and consultation on maintenance operations, provide procurement oversight for repair and maintenance projects statewide, and direct maintenance budget preparation and control appropriation of expenditures. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with major coursework in business, construction management, facilities management, engineering, or architecture.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible maintenance or construction management experience overseeing trades and building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, boiler systems, plumbing) in large, complex environments such as correctional institutions, hospitals, universities, or industrial/manufacturing campuses.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires the ability to be on-call.
  • Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least ten (10) years of hands-on maintenance experience overseeing a crew of at least ten (10) skilled tradesmen.
  • Prefers at least five (5) years of experience managing maintenance operations within large, multi-building facilities or campus-style environments.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience managing maintenance-related budgets of $5 million or more, including capital expenditures and/or direct operating expenses.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience providing technical oversight and consultation, rather than direct hands-on work, on large-scale maintenance or capital projects involving building systems such as HVAC, electrical, boiler systems, plumbing, etc.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in reviewing and managing procurements related to facility maintenance or repair projects, including evaluation of scopes of work, bids, and/or contracts.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working in maintenance operations within secure or highly regulated environments such as correctional facilities, healthcare institutions, or similar settings.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Maintenance Operations Supervisor for the Department of Corrections (DOC).
  • Serves as an expert providing technical oversight and consultation on maintenance operations.
  • Provides procurement oversight for repair and maintenance projects statewide.
  • Directs maintenance budget preparation and controls appropriation of expenditures.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
