About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking to hire a Telecommunications Supervisor. This role serves as a working supervisor, responsible for executing and controlling a statewide program that coordinates apprehension functions between personnel. The supervisor will ensure adherence to all legal policies, provide transmittals of written information to management, coordinate staff in preparing warrants, communications, memos, and letters, and administer the Telecommunicator Training Program. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college with major coursework in communications, administration, psychology, public administration, sociology, speech, or related coursework; Telecommunicator Call Taker experience accepted year-for-year for required college.
  • Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a Law Enforcement telecommunications information system such as LEADS/CAD, performing work such as a Telecommunicator, Telecommunicator Call Taker and Lead Worker.
  • Required to obtain a Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) certification within the probationary period (or within the first 4 months, if already certified in the title) of being placed into the position and maintain a current, valid certification while in the position.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of technical experience working with computer systems used in law enforcement entities.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of technical experience handling the logging and issuance of warrants.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of technical experience coordinating fugitive transport and out of state extradition.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of technical experience handling transmittal of written information regarding law enforcement topics.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of technical experience working with law enforcement charts and warrants.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of technical experience coordinating staff engaged in preparation of warrants and law enforcement communications.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Executes and controls a statewide program responsible for coordinating apprehension functions between Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) personnel.
  • Ensures all Illinois Department of Corrections legal policies are adhered to related to warrant procedures.
  • Provides transmittal of written information regarding activity relating to the IDOC/DJJ facilities to top management officials.
  • Coordinates staff engaged in the preparation of warrants, communications, memos, and letters.
  • Administers the Telecommunicator Series Training Program at the entry level, providing on the job training of new employees.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
