About The Position

The Multi-Craft Technician will safely perform all necessary duties and responsibilities relative to general maintenance and electrical repair of machines, equipment, Powerhouse, buildings and grounds. This role involves troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of machinery, including constructing, installing, maintaining, and removing various types of machinery and equipment. The technician will also perform machine shop work, tooling, pipefitting, mechanical work, carpentry, sheet metal work, and rigging. Responsibilities extend to environmental systems, including inspections, maintenance, repair, spill containment, cleanup, and recordkeeping. Basic structural welding tasks may be required. The role also includes comprehensive lubrication duties for machines, equipment, vehicles, and buildings, involving oil and grease application, filter servicing, hydraulic unit maintenance, oil sampling, and leak repair. Establishing lubrication routes, understanding proper lubricant application, and maintaining lubrication schedules are key. The technician will also manage centrifuging and filtering operations, report supply needs and unusual conditions, and may drive company vehicles on plant property, handling associated paperwork. Safety and fire prevention assistance, including incipient fire control, is also part of the role. The technician must perform all duties in accordance with ContiTech’s environmental policy and applicable work instructions. Monitoring process and machine parameters during critical belt runs, troubleshooting machine malfunctions using PLC techniques, and improving plant processes through PLC program modifications are essential. This includes troubleshooting AC and DC controls, auditing machine set points and process parameters, verifying calibration of process controllers and recorders, and documenting PLC programs, troubleshooting activities, and audit findings. Electrical repair responsibilities include installing and repairing electrical equipment such as switchgear, motors, starters, switches, and instruments using diagrams and manuals, as well as installing cable rack, cable, conduit, and pulling wire. Maintenance of inside and outside lighting, including various fixture types, and maintaining motors while working safely on voltages up to 480V are also required. The technician is responsible for keeping their work area clean. The position involves working occasionally around heat, dirt, grease, oil, contact with water, and at various heights. It requires a high degree of responsibility for correct analysis and quality work, as improper repair can lead to safety concerns and waste of time and material. The technician must furnish their own basic hand tools and be capable of using standard electrical instruments like amp meters, voltmeters, and megger testers, as well as reading blueprints, sketches, and specifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years industrial maintenance and electrical combined experience
  • Must be able to read and write legibly
  • Must be able to pass written Multi-Craft Technician test or show successful completion of certified electronic or Multi-Craft program
  • Must have previous experience or schooled in industrial or major machine maintenance and/or electrical work
  • Must be able to use all types of hand and power tools
  • Must supply own set of basic hand tools
  • Must be able to climb and work in high places
  • Must be able to work independently and in a group with little supervision
  • Must be capable of using standard electrical instruments such as an amp meter, voltmeter, and megger tester
  • Must be capable of reading from blueprints, sketches, and/or specifications

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance of machines
  • Constructing, installing, maintaining and removing all types of machinery and equipment
  • Machine shop work, tooling, pipefitting, mechanical work, carpentry work, sheet metal work, and rigging
  • Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, repair, spill containment, clean up, and recordkeeping of environmental systems
  • Performing basic structural welding tasks as needed
  • Performing all necessary duties and responsibilities related to lubrication of machines, equipment, vehicles, and buildings
  • Changing or applying oils, greases or compounds to reduce friction and prolong life of moving parts
  • Cleaning and changing oil filters
  • Servicing air line lubrication and filtering equipment
  • Cleaning both inside and outside of hydraulic units and oil reservoirs
  • Taking oil samples
  • Repairing any minor miscellaneous leaks found on equipment while servicing
  • Establishing lubrication routes and knowing proper lubricant, amount, and attention required at each location
  • Maintaining a complete oiling and lubrication schedule as directed by supervision
  • Responsible for all centrifuging and filtering operations that include moving, setting up, operating, and cleaning the centrifuge and filters
  • Reporting to supervision any need for supplies and any unusual conditions that exist during the workday
  • Driving company vehicles on plant property and handling necessary paperwork
  • Keeping their work area clean
  • Assisting in safety and fire prevention inspections as well as incipient fire control as necessary
  • Performing all job duties in accordance with ContiTech’s environmental policy and applicable work instructions
  • Monitoring process and machine parameters during critical belt runs
  • Troubleshooting machine malfunctions using PLC techniques
  • Improving plant processes through PLC program modifications
  • Troubleshooting AC and DC controls including changing of fuses, coils, contacts, and relays
  • Auditing machine set points and process parameters for performance to specifications
  • Verifying calibration of process controllers and recorders
  • Documenting machine PLC programs, troubleshooting activities and audit findings
  • Installing and repairing electrical equipment including switch gear, motors, starters, switches, instruments from wiring diagrams, sketches, and instruction manuals
  • Installing cable rack, cable, conduit, and pulling wire
  • Maintaining inside and outside lighting including incandescent, fluorescent and mercury vapor fixtures
  • Maintaining motors and be capable of working safely on voltages up to 480
